Heart of Asia’s goal is to support the development of a local healthcare network that respects the traditions and suits the environmentally challenging conditions in the remote Himalayan areas of Dzongsar near to Derge, and Thopa County near to Chamdo in Kham, eastern Tibet.

Working in partnership with respected local traditional medicine practitioners and experienced development workers, Heart of Asia aims to empower local men and women through simple healthcare training courses, by funding accredited training in both allopathic and Tibetan Herbal Medicine and by establishing small emergency funds. We also aim to fund the establishment of a small allopathic clinic.

In one of our popular initiatives Tibetan speaking volunteer midwives and health workers from the UK shared their knowledge with people selected from the communities we aim to help – through training courses which gave them basic hygiene, nutrition, first aid and maternity and childcare skills.

Our Charitable Objects:

The relief of sickness and the preservation of health among people residing permanently or temporarily in Asia, particularly the rural areas of the Tibetan plateau.
To promote and protect the physical and mental health of mothers, infants and young children in the area mentioned through the provision of financial assistance, services, support, education and practical advice to include such provision directed to improving maternal and infant health.
To support, develop and encourage the creation of health care facilities in rural areas.
To advance the education of the general public in all areas relating to maternal and infant health, and in health matters generally.
To advance the education of the public by provision of education, instruction or training in professions, locations, industries, trades and skills requisite for employment or self employment.
