Funding
Heart of Asia funds a variety of Health
Care initiatives in eastern Tibet. One of
our major aims is to enable local people
to have access to various levels of allopathic
and/or traditional Tibetan Herbal Medicine
knowledge to allow them to eventually take
control of their healthcare themselves. We
fund the training of young people as herbal
medicine doctors at Sichuan Provincial Tibetan
School in Dartsedo
(Chinese: Kangding) and as allopathic healthworkers
at Kamba University in Dartsedo, and we have
enabled small groups of local people from
Dzongsar and Thopa County to attend training
courses in simple healthcare at Dzongsar
Menkhang.
Another important aim of Heart of Asia is to fund the creation
of a simple clinic in Thopa County, TAR. The clinic will
have a mainly allopathic bias but we also hope it will
also include simple Tibetan Herbal medicine to treat
conditions where this is a cheaper and more effective
option.
Heart of Asia is
funding the establishment of two Tibetan Herbal Medicine
clinics in two very remote villages in Drayab County, near Chamdo
inside Tibet Autonomous Region. Tibetan Herbal Medicine Doctors
from the area will run the clinics. One has been trained by and
and worked with our partner in Tibet, Dr. Lodre Phuntsok
of Dzongsar Menkhang. The other doctor is a gifted Khempo recommended
by Dru gu Choegyal Rinpoche.
Heart of Asia is also setting
up small emergency funds, starting with Dzongsar area. These
will facilitate poor people needing immediate life saving treatment
reaching hospital and paying for their treatment there. Heart
of Asia is working very closely with the communities we aim
to help in order to develop appropriate responses to the changing
conditions they find themselves in, and to build on the knowledge
and networks that they already have.
Recently Heart of Asia has started a small project in India, providing toilets for village people who are below the poverty line living in the Kangra Valley of Himachal Pradesh. We appeal for your donations so that we can continue this vital work.
